boy meets girl

I have a story.

One night, girl was out with her girlfriends. She was happily talking to the girls while sipping her cranberry vodka when out of the corner of her eye, she saw a lean figure standing just a few steps away from her. She didn't pay attention but she could feel him looking at her. She turned to look at him and what she saw made her heart stop. One look and she knew he was trouble. Boy stood there, holding a drink in one hand, looking intently at girl with his beautiful eyes. He exuded confidence. He was good looking. When he saw girl looked his way, he flashed that disarming smile.

Girl smiled back and tried to ignore him. She continued talking to her friends but he kept on staring. She looked at him again and there was that smile again. Girl couldn't remember how it happened but the next thing she knew they were already talking. They talked about a lot of things. They were inseparabale for the rest of the night. They exchanged numbers and promised to meet up again soon.

A week after their first meeting, boy asked girl out. Unfortunately, girl couldn't make it. Weeks passed. They exchanged a few text messages trying to meet up again but it was all in vain. Boy couldn't make it. Girl couldn't make it. Timing was always wrong.

More than a month after they first met, they finally had a chance to meet up again. At last. It was on a weekend at a party. Girl met boy's friends and boy met girl's friends. It was a fun night. They talked again. Girl was amazed at how boy could still vividly remember every single detail of their first meeting. He was sweet and a little flirty and girl kept her guard up, although deep inside she was melting. It was one good weekend, something not easily forgotten.

After that weekend rendezvous, they just stopped talking. No more text messages, no more phone calls. Boy was busy travelling, girl was busy with work. They managed to talk on the phone for a few minutes before boy flew off to some country for a holiday. Then boy had to leave and go back to his home country, for good. A couple of days before his departure, one of boy's friends talked to girl. And during the conversation, girl found out that boy actually has a girlfriend who's in a place far from where girl is. Up to that point, girl didn't have the slightest clue that boy was attached. Girl wasn't hurt, just dumbfounded and disappointed. Now boy has left.

And the story ends there.

Moral lessons of the story:
1. The Little Sparrow song is true - "never trust the hearts of men."
2. Basta gwapo, gago.
3. Assholes abound so be very careful.

the search is over

It's been a while since I updated my blog or posted a decent entry. I've been busy with a lot of things - work (as always), house hunting with JC, reviewing for GRE, reading books on development-related issues and my nightly date with Michael Scofield.

JC and I were in Woodlands last Sunday to view some apartments for rent. Yes, Woodlands - the place in Singapore that's only minutes away from Malaysia. We walked around the area for 4 hours under the scorching heat of the Singapore sun. By 7 pm, we were both exhausted, hungry, icky but happy. Happy because we've found a place to rent after countless phone calls, surfing the pinoysg website for ads and viewing few units in different areas of this island. Although house hunting is really a pain in the neck, it also has its fun side. You get to talk to different kinds of agents - funny, annoying, nosy, snob, professional, talkative - and you get to tour Singapore.

I feel that this is going to be a new beginning for me and JC. The unit we found is a cozy little place up north, away from everything. Good place, good influence, good vibes - that's what we really need right now. Orchard is 30 minutes away, which means we are far away from shopping temptation. Clubs are also at least 30 minutes away so that means lesser clubbing and more time to study. And the best thing? JC and I are gonna be staying in one place.

Stranger

Stranger
-Secondhand Serenade-

Turn around,
Turn around and fix your eye in my direction
So there is a connection.
Now I can't speak,
I can't make a sound to somehow capture your attention
I'm staring at perfection.

Take a look at me so you can see
How beautiful you are.

You call me a stranger, you say I'm a danger,
But all these thoughts are leaving you tonight.
I'm broken, abandoned; you are an angel
Making all my dreams come true tonight.

I'm confident,
But I can't pretend I wasn't terrified to meet you.
I knew you could see right through me
I saw my life flash right before my very eyes
And any chance what we turn into
I was hoping that you could see

Take a look at me so you can see...

You call me a stranger, you say I'm a danger,
But all these thoughts are leaving you tonight.
I'm broken, abandoned; you are an angel
Making all my dreams come true tonight.

You are an angel
Making all my dreams come true tonight.

Take a look at me so you can see
How beautiful you are...

Your beauty seems so far away
I'd have to write a thousand songs
To make you comprehend how beautiful you are.
I know that I can't make you stay
But I would give my final breath
To make you understand how beautiful you are.
Understand how beautiful you are.

You call me a stranger, you say I'm a danger
But all these thoughts are leaving you tonight.
I'm broken, abandoned; you are an angel
Making all my dreams come true tonight.

You call me a stranger...
You say I'm a danger...
You call me a stranger...
